Error Codes 51a6 2a94 with transmission warning
2009 528i with E 60 engine and about 183 K miles. Transmission oil and pan changed 33 K miles ago. The car starts and shifts normally.
Last week my wife left work and a transmission warning came on. The car on hydraulic jacks symbol got displayed and the warning asked her to drive slowly and take it into the dealer. She shut and restarted the car and came home and the warning or idiot light have not reappeared.
My neighbor, a foreman mechanic, pulled these two codes as did a local transmission repair shop. No one knows what to repair.

2A94 crankshaft sensor, sometimes cable broke down. Located sensor, near motor starter battery cable, check wiring and sensor housing, sometimes the plastic degrade, easy to broke.

Bad Gas?
We cleared the codes to see if they pop up again. My wife and I are of the mind that it may have been bad gas. The codes have not returned but the year is still young. Stay tuned.

I would replace the crankshaft sensor and check the wiring. The signal from the sensor is used as the heart beat for all timing of spark and fuel. An erratic signal could mess up quite a number of things. Can't see how bad gas could lead to either of those error codes.

My crank position sensor failed. Driving down the road at 100 and it said 'transmission failure'. Stopped and re-started and I got 'reduced power'. On and off for a few days then it finally did a hard fail. these engines will time themselves off the cam sensors when the crank sensor goes, but the cam sensors aren't as accurate so it limps the engine. CPS is a b-atch to change.
