Hi, got a warning in IDRIVE today to pour 1 QUART of Engine Oil..

should I just buy 1 Quart ($7-10 I guess?) of oil from BMW Dealer and pour it in? or any special procedure invovled?

Don't want to take appt to have dealer do it.. its a PITA process and not worth it just for $7 oil.

UPDATE: Cool 1 Quart BMW Oil only $5.40 .. cool! First time they not ripping off

Hi

You just need to add the appropriate grade of oil. Befire we had idrive you had to check oil regulary. As for taking it to the dealer to do it, I wouldnt think so.

I wonder if after adding the oil yourself the warning indicator still would need to be reset by the dealer?

it shouldnt need to be reset by the dealer. after adding the quart, the message shouldnt be there. check the oil level under "service" in the idrive after driving a bit to see the current oil level after you added.

also, make sure the oil is full synthetic. you could check the manual for what viscosity.

yah I checked OIL METER in IDRIVE, it showed level at bottom.. so asked me to pour in 1 Quart Engine Oil..

SO looks like it just a matter of buying engine oil from BMW Dealer and pour it in. No other special procedure..

it doesnt have to be purchased from the dealer. could be from pep boys or autozone or some other automotive store.

Hi - its no problem and it's all very normal that you have to add 1 quart/1liter between oil services.
Simply buy fully syhthectic motoroil, take of the oil cap and poor it ind. The yellow warning light wont be there once you start the engine again, since the oil level controller registres that the oil level is okay again.

The E60 runs so long between oil services that filling up is necc.

I think you need to make sure Engine is cool right, so oil engine wont pour out when u open cap right?

That kinda precaution measures I was looking for, before I open Engine Cap and it spill burning engine oil all over my skin loll
