Engine Ticking Noise is Gone!!!

Given the carbon build-up and the noise you heard it could have been you had a damaged plug that was mis-firing, the spark would have followed the path of least resistance and just shorted out to the surrounding block. Would explain the plug condition and the sound you heard and now that is absent. Therefore probably would have had nothing to do with valve(s).
Imagine if other vehicles were mis-diagnosed and the real problem was spark plugs that were failing.

Did you notice an increase in power or smoothness? Better economy?

It will be interesting to check this in a few weeks and see what develops.

Yes, increases the power, smoothness and maybe better mileage (the last is too early yet because I changed them today....) I will post again in few days and see how is the mileage, etc..

Hummm 77K and it looks like that eh... maybe I should get mine changed out at 50K instead of the recommended 100K.

Glad this worked out. If the plug had some issues, you may wnat to also check the wires.

I've never heard of Pulstar plugs....at $25 a pop, I'll have to do some reading up. I thought I was up to speed to top brands .

BMW Coils on some earlier V-8 (e32/e38) models had a habit of failing. I don't know if there is a way to check those. A bad coil would make a good spark plug foul up. So, even your new plugs may go bad if that were the root cause.

This is a good point. I would take those plugs into your dealer or a good BMW mechanic and talk to them about it.
