I was driving back from Las Vegas to Los Angeles.
After 200 miles, I got a overheated warning on idrive.
It asked me to stop the vehicle and cool down engine immediately.
All power is lost; gas pedal has no response.
So, I have no choice but to pull-over to the emergency lane and turn off engine.

After 5 mins, I restarted engine. I got another msg.

Engine too hot, drive moderately to prevent overheating" if problem persist call BMW" An amber thermocouple was displayed.

I keep driving moderately, and stay out of turbo boost. And the msg went away and never came back.

Anyone experience this before?

Should I take it to dealership for a check-up ?

I would definitely take it to the dealership to figure out what happened. I know the N54 engine runs hot but I have not heard of a 535 overheating. Also, the dealership should check if there was any damage caused to the engine (not saying there was).

Guess Krozi wasn't lying when he warned me about 335s overheating. Makes sense - same engine. Hope its nothing in your case and you never see this message again. But to answer you question, yes, I think 535s can overheat. I'm interested to see what the dealer says.

Car is dropped on this morning. 3 Hours later, Advisor called and report the water pump needs to be replaced.

Is it reasonable?

Is it true that Water pump is to spray water to cool down the radiator?

Ah no... , STI scoobies used to have a water jet mister for the Intercooler you would get like 10 sprays...

The water pump moves water threw the cooling channels in the motor.... the stuff in the radiator won't just move it self.

The intercooler cools down the Air that then gets compressed by the turbos that is then fed to the motor... ( cooled air =More power)

The Aux Oil cooler helps cool down the oil that circulates in the motor and the turbos... this was a bane of the early non manual non sport equipped 335i's , they did not have the Aux oil cooler and over heated , but it was retrofitted to them, and every USA bound 535i/xi has them up front of the radiator and above the Intercooler.

Surprised you haven't heard that 535s are afflicted by higher than normal engine temps.
