I think my engine oil sensor has gone madd!!
After 3300 miles, my engine decided to play little jokes on me. At first it said that my engine oil level is at minimum please fill 1qrt. Then, after a couple hours parked, it would say all systems are fine. Wasn't quite sure what the problem was, but it seemed like many of us here had similar problems. I'm dropping my car off tonight at my dealer for a checkup. Please let me know if other's have encountered a similar problem w/ their 550's and have you found a solution?

I had a similar problem. For me, it was not the sensor but simply needed to add a qt of oil. Weird thing is that I got the oil warning symbol but my I-drive menu said all was OK. I miss that dip stick!

I you drive too agressively, oil move to other side causing sensor reading no oil on the other side J/K

I had similar problem, but it repeatedly ask me to donate one quart of oil. What the heck, I donated a quartful of oil and it never bother me since then.

The manual clearly states that the engine oil readings are only accurate after the engine has been warmed up and you've driven about 8 miles (relying on memory about the 8 miles part). Bottom line, when it's cold, you're not getting an accurate reading.

I drive a e60 520i, and have encountered this problem twice. The milage is currently 14000km, and the recommended service is at 18000km, so wouldn't it be logical for the engine oil to drop, especially if we were to service the car once a year?

Cheers

Just dropped off my five at the dealer and is waiting to be examined first thing in the morning. My SA wasn't available, but I was able to speak with my sales consultant. He didn't know much, but he told me that if this problem continues to happen three times for the same exact problem, then he would file for a lemon himself. He told me that as long as the car has under 18k miles and less than a year old my car would still be eligible to file for a lemon, which I hope would never happen.
But I'll keep you all posted with the updates.

He also quoted me a price for a M6 for about 104k, little high guys? don't wanna be fooled

Just got a call from my SA and he told me that the car just needed more EO since these new engines in the 550i tend to burn a little more oil than usual. I also had them to check out the flow from the exhaust because I sometimes realized the smoke coming out of only one pipe. Other than that everything seems to be good to go.

I have had this problem repeatedly for 3 or 4 times already. My dealer has replaced 2 oil sensors already per the recommendation by BMW NA. My SA told me many E90s have the same problems too. BMW NA is investigating this problem. My SA told me there will be a recall whenever they find out the cause of this problem. I hate this stupid sensor thing.
