My car tells me on and off that the engine oil is at minimum level. Could I just pour some in myself? and if so what does BMW recommend? Thanks! Ah yes off topic Ive had the joy of getting a flat last night. But replaced the tire with the spare myself after being told by bmw roadside assiatance( transfers to AAA) that It'd be 2 hours before they could get to me !

I believe BMW recommends Castrol full Synthetic 5w30 and if you are at the minimum it is a quart low. Sorry to hear about the flat tire, I would have changed it myself too. Good Luck

The same warning flashed up on my screen a few weeks ago, indicating low oil, and to cease and desist any further driving until more oil was added. I called the service department, and they indicated I should drive it over and they would replenish the supply. Sort of a dilemma, listen to the screen, or drive to the service department. I ended up hitting a parts store and putting a quart of Mobile One 5W 50 in, and that took out the warnings.

I don't know if the castrol molecules and working in bliss with the Mobile One boys, or are just jealous, but I always say go with what you know, and the only two synthetics I have used in 25 years are Shell aeroshield, and Mobile One.

The spare tire is an interesting issue, I am going to stroll out to the garage, fire up a Hoya de Montery Epicure #2, put a little yo-yo man on the stereo, and find out if I have a spare tire in the car.

Turns out there is a compartment under the trunk deck, that holds a spare tire. I am really flummoxed now as to why you would have run flats, and a spare.... might need to contemplate this new discovery for a while. I can't imagine what I am going to find in the front part of the car when I figure out how to open the hood.

...there's a big thing in there that gets warm, and sometimes it shakes a little. I'm told it's the part that makes the run-flats turn.
