Driving home last night after work the Engine Oil Low message popped up. I was 2 minutes from home, it was 3 am, on a country road, so I decided to keep going. This morning I went to check it out; the oil level was at the low end of the scale on the dipstick. I thought, no big deal, and went to the garage to grab a bottle of Syntec. Before I poured it in, I decided to check the coolant reservoir. That's when I realized I had a BIG problem. There was oil sludge in the coolant reservoir!!!!!! I'm suspecting a blown head gasket. I called my trusted mechanic and Wednesday its going in. 93,600 km on the clock... so disappointed.
My avatar can give you an idea of how I feel right now...

Man that sucks. Hope it all turns out good with not too much money out of your pocket.

With the equivalent of only 58,160 miles an engine problem that serious should be handled by BMW regardless of the age of your car.

Keep us posted.

Absolutely, BMW generally run a 100,000 mile policy on mechanicals if you have a FMDBMWSH

I wouldn't just jump to that conclusion yet. Are there are oil/water seperators or cooler that could potentially have a blown seal?
If you blew a gasket, there should be other symptoms.

i got that same message and i have about 54000 miles on my car...just added 2 quarts didnt think to check out the coolant reservior...

hmm...got me thinking...i want to say i smelled a sweet coolant smell recently...cant think if it was in my other car or the 530...

Should i be worried?? Check the coolant? I do not have the cash for a new engine...would CPO cover this type of major repair?

I respectufully disagree. There are plenty of independent BMW shops that can do the job. This could save him several hundred dollars, if the car is out of warranty.

You might want to check the BMW CCA web site and look for the independent shops list.
