Can I use a left over quart of engine oil that I had purchased for my E39? Can I use it for my E60? My oil level is low. It was purchased from the BMW dealership and it's synthetic.

i don't see why not...as long as it's synthetic i think it should be ok for a little refill.

My car is under warranty. According to the system, I need an oil change in 3000 KM. If I do it before I have to pay out of pocket. If I do it at the 3000K interval I don't have a pay a single cent. Right now I just want to do a top-up to prevent any damage to the engine. If I can use the oil I purchased for the E39 that would be perfect.

Last week I went in to the dealership to top up the coolant. I was getting a message on the screen. They did not charge me for it. Maybe they can top up the oil too?

+1

These cars require very specific SAE oil, I would at least check the manual, which will tell you to check "approved brands" on BMWUSA.

Also there are two marks on the dipstick. It takes 1.6 quarts to fill the space between them. Apparently we should be very carefull not to go over the top mark.
