My Ride: In a place where the Mercedes density is the highest in the world (no. of MB per square kilometer) I choose a Bimmer, why? because of one thing "The Ultimate Driving Experience"

I am happy either way, as long as it works. But I do prefer to check it over the iDrive (given that there's no fault) so no more dirty hands for me.

No dipstick on 2007 530is for sure. Had an issue day one on my oil sending unit, and had to be replaced. Only way to figure out whether that was the issue was the dealer dropped the oil into a pan and measured it, then filled it up again.
Seems like a dipstick would be a nice item to have....

IIRC the 2004 and 2005 were equipped with the M54B30 engine, and they have the manual solution, right?
MY 2006-onwards come with the N52B30 engine and ONLY have the electronic dipstick via iDrive.

545 has a dipstick. It does not have the hardware to support the electronic reading. The I drive guage showed up for me after CIP 22x. It doesn't work. Technician says he has no idea why it showed up. Its only for the 550.
