Engine oil

Hello everybody,
I'm sure it was discussed here before, sorry but couldnt find.
Would like to hear your opinions as to what ENGINE OIL you, guys, consider the best. Mine was always changed at the dealer before and as far as i was told they were using BMW's original oil. Got a message today that i have to add a liter so need to choose one
Forgot to say my drive is 520 petrol
