im sure the dealers bmw oil from castrol is the 5w30 syntheic found in most Advances. I dont get all into the 15k oil changes because I would never go that far. Were not talking about race cars here guys, as long as its a good synthetic oil what does it matter if you are dumping it out every 5-7.5k anyway?

I use Castrol 0W-30 Synthetic (Labeled with European Formula in green on bottle) rather than 5W as indicated on the manual. This is because I drive 50\50 City Highway and 8 miles round trip daily for work. The lower weight will just "wet" everything as soon as possible due to the short distance.

I've been very satisfied with Mobil 1 European Formula 0W-40. It's a "true" synthetic and not a hydro-cracked Grp.III like the BMW 5W-30 oil. The German Castrol 0W-30 and Amsoil are also true synthetics, but have no experience with either. FWIW, the BITOG forum is an excellent source of info on lubricating oils.
