My Ride: 2008 535i

So I start my '05 530 this morning (40 degrees outside, driven daily) and it is idling really rough at about 1000 rpm. And when I say rough, I mean like chitty chitty bang bang. So I let it idle for maybe 15 seconds thinking it's going to die on me any second but waiting for it to smooth out. Then the engine malfunction warning comes up on the iDrive and the check engine light lights up the gauges. I sit there in disbelief for a second and then turn off the car. Instantly I start the car again, and perfect smooth idle, no engine light.

What the F??? And of course I just clocked over 50,000 like a month ago (although I do still have an aftermarket warranty) so before I take it in to see if everything is okay and shell out my deductible, I thought I would check with the board.

Now during my searching around I have noticed others with similar issues, but none with a 530. Only 535 or 545's. On top of that, the presumable causes ranged from fuel filter, to spark plugs, to battery/battery cable, to using Costco gas, among others. Anyway, if any of you can help me out, tell me what to look for, point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

BTW, just had the latest service done at 45K and was told my software was up to date (can I tell?) Oh, and one time, maybe two months ago, an ABS malfunction warning came across the iDrive and hasn't shown up since.

Thanks all!

Alright, I will try to run in there this weekend.

Pretty easy DIY? Will they be able to tell me which ones are bad or should I just swap 'em all?

Thanks

I don't know if the E60 is afflicted with this problem, but the E36 and E46 have this similar problem when you start the car cold, move it to a different spot in the driveway and then shut it off before the engine warms up. I swear, it's true.

Anyway, do you recall doing that, the night before?

Can someone chime in and post whether this is true with the E60 or not? As a matter of habit, I have taken the car for a short spin if I need to just move it from one spot to another...

i didnt replace them my self i had a local shop replace them, order them from garry newport and save yourself 25% i bought them from my local westchester bmw they charged me 60$ for each one and my local shop charged me $70-80 for labor i think garry has them for dirt cheap. btw it wont hurt to drive the car like that even though i dont recomend it but my mechanic said its fine just on one less cylinder.

Whoa, I did actually. And I do remember hearing about this. I moved it out of the garage to vaccuum it out and then back in the night before. Hmmm... Any more info on this?
