I bought a Scan Tool that clears errors out of the BC. I was going to buy the Scan Tool anyway as it does other useful functions as well....

I don't understand why more members/automobile owners don't do this. Went to the local Autozone and bought this:
http://www.levineautoparts.com/cp9180.html
I've owned scan tools since my first eletronically controlled vehicle, a 1997 Toyota Camary back in '97. You instantly save the $70+ fee repair facilities charge just to 'diagnose' - which usually is simply a code read. Even the most basic scanner will show the code, if not the definition. A google search of the trouble code (ie P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire) will give you an idea of what the problem may be. At the very least, it's an easy way to clear CEL errors, especially those caused by installs gone wrong. Keep in mind that all vehicles sold in the US since 1996 MUST be OBDII compliant - meaning that your scan tool will be able to check codes on everything from your 1996 Geo Metro, to your 2008 Porche 911 Turbo.

I installed my SB yesterday and got the same error...rechecked the fitting and saw that it was put in the wrong way. Replugged it the corrct way and problem solved!! Just make sure you have everything connected properly and you shouldn't have a problem. Unless you have a faulty model

I tried a million ways....nothing worked so I deducted I have a faulty unit and sent it back. I looked at all the pins, matched numbers up etc...nothing.

Yeah I think I did. I sent it back and am awaiting my next one. I took the previous poster's advice and bought a code reader/reset tool at Autozone. I used it on 3 cars the first day..works great!!!
