What gives? I thought this only happened to the 535's and M5's. I got this message on the highway with my daughter in the backseat. The car would not go past 23 or so. Talk about dangerous!!! I pulled over, shut down and restarted and everything seemed fine.

What the heck?

Brush it off as a fluke until if/when it happens again, then worry. I've had some funny things happen to me in my 545 that a restart cleared never to be seen again.

I dunno if "brush it off" is the right solution. You have a 2008 - so it's still under the 4yr factory warranty. I'd take it in to the dealer and get it checked out at minimum. Last thing you want is to have that happen on the freeway at the wrong time, especially when your kid's are in the car - that would freak me out.

engine/trans diagnostic code may have been set. Dealer can read that code and tell you what may have happened. Even if the CEL is not on, the diagnostic code may have been stored.

Brushing it off is not the answer to your sudden and unexpected problem. Alot of members have gone through this issue. "Reduced Power" and had to go to the service center. It could be a minor fix but you should consider making a visit to the service center immediately.

DO NOT "brush it off"! Reduced power limp home mode is a dangerous way to be in these cars... especially on the highway! I am pretty sure it stored a code so have it read somewhere. Could be something simple like a MAF sensor, but may also be an MPM or control module in the ebox...

Thanks everyone. I bought this car as security for when my
Family travels. I do not like things like this...
