I didn't try to push start it, but instead I tried charging the battery. After a night of charging I went out and turned on the igniton and the car started, but a bit slower then usual, so I put the charger back on and it showed 12 amps.. now when I went back out and started it about 5 hours later it was at 0 amps on the charger and after I reconnected the charger it was back up at 15 amps, so my guess is the battery needs to be changed. Now I understand that swapping the battery on the E60 isn't that simple, I have to do something in the ISTA system because the car has a IBS system? How much work is this and can it be done without a trip to the garage?

Cheers for all the help lads!

You can buy OEM battery [or equivalent AmpereHour rated battery] and replace it yourself.

You can have a mechanic or someone with INPA software and OBD cable register the car after replacing the battery.

After changing the battery ,,, put alittle anti- seize lube on the terminal bolt threads. The bolts are stainless steal and will seize up if over tightened, ive seen people overtighten the bolts which is easy to do, and had to replace the 300 dollar cable. anti seize will prevent that from happening..

Whatever you do, you should ensure that the battery is registered. Otherwise, the battery will fail sooner. Ask your service rep for the full explanation why.
