Default Engine hesitation/slight juddering e60 530d manual 2005 advise please.....

Hi guys,

530d sport manual 2005

Between around 1500-2000rpm there is sometimes hesitations and the car is kangarooing a little bit for a few seconds until the revs are up more, this happens at slow and fast speeds, i notice it round town and also on the motorway aswell when sitting at 70mph 1800rpm it seems to do it quiet abit when using the throttle but doesn't really do it using cruise control, I'm sure it's getting worse since I bought the car about 8 weeks ago.

When unplugging the MAF sensor the problem seems to go away or is deffinatly 95%+ better (i sometimes think did it just do it very very slightly but think that I'm over looking for any tiny little noise/feeling) so I'm pretty sure the problem isn't there with MAF unplugged. As soon as MAF is plugged back in a few short journeys show the problem is deffinatly there again not ALL the time but quit frequent now.

I've bought a diagnostic cable and the fault which keeps coming back is 02 sensor lambda sensor fault

Just wondering what people think and would you...

A. Try a new MAF sensor (£165 + vat for a Bosch one)
B. change the 02 sensor (£103)
C. Ive cleaned the egr valve but could it be this??
D: anything anyone else can suggest trying before I spend money on guessing ????

I'm just wondering if the 02 sensor fault could be the cause and the MAF sensor is giving correct signals but the 02 sensor is causing the engine to hesitate or could it be the MAF sensor is broken and this in turn is causing the 02 sensor fault?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks guys
