hmmmm, I wonder how my car will sound without it? anyone else with an e60 do this?

i dont think it would be a sound improvement. usually the sound from the engine compartment (minus a blower/CAI/blow off valve) is the sound you are looking for. engines tap and clank and make all sorts of bad noises. you dont want the sound of your AC compressor to sound louder

I took mine off, noticable gain is performance was noted.

hmmm.... I wonder if that "sound isolation lining" somehow increases ambient temperature inside the air intake - what else can it be that would cause performance to improve if removed?

it also affects the weight and distribution thereof, so it makes a HUGE difference probably and we're all stuck here in the slow lane with these things still installed!

My guess is it is a sound deadening feature. If it were there for heat protection, I would expect the entire engine bay to be covered.

Performance gains?? If that seems likely to you then perhaps removing your floor mats would be a more effective performance Mod!!
