Thumbs up

Has anyone taken the engine cover off? What's its purpose? I looked at radzm550i's M3 pix from the Mfest at Kress pictures and I saw the hood up and it didn't have it. Just wondering if I can get a better sound from the engine bay without it.

TIA

Its a heat shield, to protect the heat of the engine from baking the hood paint.

That's what I initially thought but was wondering why the M3 didn't have it. Just sayin'...

I think thats for sound deadening more than to protect the paint.

\ BMW parts catalog \ BMW 3' E92 \ USA, Coupe \ M3 (S65) \ Part groups \ Vehicle trim \ Sound insulating front

i think part 2 is supposed to be it. just because it isnt on his car doesnt mean it doesnt belong there.

Its not a heat shield, its made of some type of cardboard/synthetic fabric

its for engine noise reduction
