Hi to All,
Two miles away from my house when the icon in the dash board and message on the idrive came on. Engine temperature is high, drive moderately. I did not pull over, continued driving until I got home. When I got home, cooled down the engine for a little bit and started the car , after a few minutes the message and icon appeared again. I need help and advice on how to resolve this. Thanks!

Make sure the car cools down for an hour or two before opening the cap on the coolant tank or you may receive a nasty surprise. Also check for leaks around the tank and the coolant hoses that run to and from the radiator.

Thank you for the reply! I checked the coolant level and it was a little bit above the minimum. There was no leak from the hoses and tank as well. I also checked the oil level and it was 1/4 below the max. I started the car, turned on the A/C and I noticed that the fan facing the back of the radiator wasn't turning.

First, Check the relay and fuse for the fan, then next step would be locating the fan switch and by pass it to see if the fan is working. The last option would be replacing the fan itself. Not familiar with the switch location on our e60 though. I've fixed this issue on my family Accord and Lexus before.

currently stranded at a gas station. fan wont run.
Car warning message came on so I pulled over and found the fan not working.
but I have no idea where the fuse is.
I have some tools with me and I located a fuse block in the trunk on the passenger side but not a single one is labeled.
I have looked through my Bentley manual, but its 95* and im baking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It is the fuse panel located under the glove box. You have to remove the trim panel and then undo the green colored fast-on screw on the right side under the trim panel. The fuse panel then drops down. It is fuse F9 - 60A. On my car, there is a fuse map in the trunk lid under the little tool kit panel.

Bentley manual page ECL-28 (in my version anyway).
