Default Emmision Problem... Help !!

Hello all,

I am currently driving a 2004 545I 6 speed manual. I am having trouble passing the emission test because my Evaporate system and secondary air monitors are "not ready". The system is new hear to Toronto, Ontario, Canada as of 2013 and I am apparently not the only one having problems....

I have driven over 2500 kms since replacing my breather control valve and gas cap which was originally giving me my check engine light. The MIL light has not returned on and there are no codes stored.

I have attempted to complete the "drive cycle" to the best of my ability over 5 times. With that being said, it is difficult at times to follow the cycle on point. Today, I dropped my car at my buddies shop and had him accurately complete 3 drive cycles on the dyno, and still the windows are not ready.

I would appreciate any help I can get !

I'll have to deal with the new Ontario system this year...

Found this about EVAP system on another BMW forum, it's for a 745i, but I guess should work for you as well.

First thing you need to do is make the sure the fuel tank is between 1/2 and 3/4 filled. Monitor will not complete if fuel level is not at the appropriate level. Also the EVAP monitor will only operate during the first 30 minutes of engine operation. In order to complete the EVAP drive cycle cruise at 72 to 104 Km/h (45 to 65 MPH) for 10 to 15 minutes (avoid sharp turns and hills). I try to cruise at 63 mph just in case my speedometer is off. If you exceed 65 mph the monitor will not complete. If you do this the EVAP should complete. Theres is more technical information out there but thought I'd give the simplified version.
