emission inspection due / what do they check?

What do they usually check when the emission inspection is due? The Idrive says it is due for emission inspection service. I don't have no more warranty left on the car. How much do the dealership charge to do the inspection. I really don't have any problem with the car right now. TIA

My Ride: 535d Sport, carbon black, media pack, visibility pack, grey leather, heated seats, sun protection glass, voice control, Eibach ProKit, 19" 166 style wheels, e-maps ECU remap to 325hp and 640NM, top speed limiter removed

In the UK the emission inspection comes up when the car is due for it's first MOT after 3 years old and is then set to annually for every further MOT test

You can change the date in the service menu... The only reason emission inspection is in the iDrive is for your own sake.. I've set the dates in our E60, so they follow the danish laws.. MOT inspection when the car is 4 years incl. emission inspection :-)

If you're not getting any codes (CEL's), the only thing that could be checked is a visual inspection of your exhaust system (cat/pipe,muffler). Any real issues with the system would show up as a CEL code.
