Sorry if this has been discussed before but if our cars are equipped with run flats, why do we have a spare tire in the car? Do you guys take them out of the car?

Thanks,
Jon

The spare is more durable than the runflats.. besides.. you could throw it out and replace the tyre with a "mold" that creates a storage compartment. I switch between having the spare there during winter (AFAIK there are no studded RFTs), and having the storage compartment in place during summer.

I took that option to replace reflat by convential tyres when worn.

When we specify run flats in the UK we don't get any spare wheel or jack/brace. This is a ?70 ($135) option that consists of a spacesaver steel wheel. Under the boot (trunk)floor are two plastic cross pieces and floor support so that the area can be used for storage.

If the majority of E60's were going to be sold with run flats why didn't BMW make the area square which would have been more useful and could still accomodate a wheel

I'd rather have a full size spare.
