electrical system
I need one. The dealership told me they'd have to look and see how much it is and they take forever to get back to u. but i was estimated at about 6 thousand before they actually look it up. and they told me after that "they'd just have to look at it". even tho I, and the dealership both agree that all the symptoms lead to a new electrical system. with that being said, 2 or 3 months ago the car was slowly leading to the problem and eventually just lost all power and died, with the sunroof open and all windows down haha. soooo, i'd have to wait for a day that its not raining or snowing, call for a tow truck, and tow it to the dealership which is about 50 miles away. and I'm not going to do all those things until i know the exact amount or a reasonable estimate before i tow it all the way there just for "them to look at it."

What year and model is your car? Did this happen while and after it rained? Check the trunk around the battery and under the spare tire for water. Sometimes a water leak could of fried the microprocessor module (if you have the E60 with the MPM still in the spare tire well).
it has been an on going problem. i bought the car brand new in 2004. the problem started i guess in 08 when the car would crank up and then shut off. it did that off and on until a few months ago when it died. ( I have an e90 that just had the whole electrical system replaced and that was the first symptom of it going out they said) a long time ago before that started, my brother had driven the car and left the sunroof open during a rainstorm in which malfunctioned the passenger airbag restraint system. other than that, thats the only water exposure that i know of ever occurring. following those issues, a few months ago, the gauges stopped working, the dash quit lighting up, the heated seats stopped getting warm for the most part, the idrive went out, then the whole car is completely dead. it wont jump off, charge, nothing. luckily the e90 is under warranty but damn am i lookin for a break with the electrical issues for a bit ha.

Before you take it to the dealer get your brother over to help pull up the carpeting and check some of the connectors. This is 99% his fault. Unless he has deep pockets to pay for all the repairs.
What probably happened is that water/moisture has gotten into the accelerator sensors (driver/passenger), DSC sensors (driver/passenger), the CAN_BUS data wires in the splice under the passenger side rug, and the transfer case control module. A short in the F_BUS (One of a few data buses) would interrupt communications between all of the modules.
The instrument cluster is one of those modules and it is actually a 'slave' device; it simply listens to commands on one of these data buses. If the data bus is shorted nothing will work.
If anything pull the rug up to see how moist it is under the carpeting and seats. If you can let it dry out.
As long as the wiring is not melted and shorting, and the modules are still intact, once any temporary shorting/grounding from the moisture dries up everything should work. There might be corrosion on the ground points but that can easily be cleaned and corrected.
The electrical system in the e60 is fairly robust.
