My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
Came from my uncle’s today listening to the radio, some 30 mile stretch, when these strange things happened:
- First the iDrive screen went blackout. I pushed the iDrive knob and it woke up.
- After a while the radio started scanning for radio stations by it's own.
- Did select the pre-programmed stations, and all was fine for a while.
- Then the radio did go mute! Did open the radio, an all was fine.
- But after a while the sound volume went up to "very high" by itself.
What is happening? Have anyone experienced this?
The cars service overtime did come up, just before all this iDrive insanity.
Have ordered the first service for Thursday the 17th.

Geez Ric, either the car has some software glitches (which sounds more likely than electrical problems) or your car is haunted. I took my car to the dealer a couple of weeks ago because the iDrive screen went black a few times, they upgraded the software to the latest one under warranty and haven't seen the problem again yet (knocking on wood). Good luck at your service appt.

Not sure, I'll have to check what version they gave me, they just told me "the latest" version for my car.

Well at least with your reported problems they should put it on diagnostic and look for fault codes and or faulty electric systems. I tend to think alternator/or other electrical. If software, it would have to be a corrupted system as you were fine for some long period, right? As of now your dealer should be up to at least ISTA/P 2.35.4 with 2.36 expected to be released sometime in December. No special fixes for older E6x that I can tell. Some fixes for some of the newer infotainment systems on MY10 E6x vehicles. More to do with some compatability and retrofit codes the new service center computer ask for than real problem with vehicle systems.
