My Ride: 2007 525xi 140k miles
Model Year: 525xi
Engine: 3.0l

i'm new here was looking for some info on the electric water pump on my 07 525xi. got the overheating warning on the display, removed the pump and tried to bench test it. put 12 volts from a battery, negative to brown that came off the block and positive to the red. didn't run. should it have am i missing anything ?

You could of kept the pump in the car to test it. You can initiate an auto bleed and the pump will activate. Also in INPA it can be activated

i tried that, didn't work. thought i'd try bench testing it to eliminate anything on the car

If it didn't work when it was in the car and you activated the bleed process then it's no good. You activate the bleed process to eliminate the pump while troubleshooting
