It just isn't fair. It would be nice to see the US refine there diesel a little better so we could get diesel models.

That is really good mileage.

It's fantastic DrD, isn't it? Just wait until we have about 15-20k miles on the clock and the engine is getting really run in. I think we'll see an extra 5mpg improvement then.

This seems like great technology and something that could make the USA less dependent on Arab oil. VW brought the TDI engine here, it ran on US diesel, but it didn't seem successful, compared to the Hybrid cars. The Hybrid technology seems to be doing very well, and Toyota will be rolling the technology out across a broader spectrum of its cars. I think if BMW would market diesel technology here alot of people would buy. I drive ALOT and would love to get 38 MPG.

I too wish that the diesels were here. I currently have a Dodge truck with the Cummins diesel, 2nd one and I it. I was looking at another upscale luxury sedan with the diesel, but then I wanted the driving experience so came to my senses.

BRING ON THE 535D. I would buy one!!

When I lived in the States in the early 80s my family had a GM truck with a V8 diesel - and it went like a bat out of hell. So, clearly, the BMW diesel technology could be refined for your market. But with gas at $1/gal what incentive do they have to bring the diesel over? If driving was that cheap over here I would have gone down Jonboy's route & bought the 545. As it is, I grew weary of putting ?100 per week into my previous ride.

E60-530d-London,

Excellent point. Actually gas is a bit more in the States right now. Florida a tad over $2.00 and Oregon just a tad under.

But in Germany, gasoline (petrol, benzin) is about $5.00 per gallon.

If I was a local (and nothing wrong with that) I would most definately have bought a diesel.

I am in Germany and you are right, the gas prices are 5 Bucks/Gallon.
But for nothing in the world I would trade my 545iA in for a Diesel.

Wait & see, Mr Iceman. Audi have just introduced a very interesting V8 diesel. What will be the reply from BMW, Merc? VW already have a V10 diesel that would show your 545 a run for its money if installed into an E60!
