You just confirmed most of my points

1. <A 535d is officially doing 6.4 0-60.> so, the quickest E-60 diesel is about as fast as $22K Camry.

2. <Bentley belongs to the Volkswagen/Audi group, so at most it's a rich person Audi, not BMW. > This was just a figure of speech. We often say that WRX/Evo are "poor man's BMWs", Bentley is kind of "rich man's BMW". Something a rich man who values performance would drive if he needs/likes big cars.

3. <Even the fastest new Bentley does not do 4.5 0-60 (Continental GT quoted at 4.7)>. In the real life GT is around 4.5, and believe me they are much faster then non-M E60s and they do care about speed. I had 3-4 encounters with Bentleys and they never let me pass them. The moment they realized I was trying to compete they would just step on it and loose me like I was standing still.

4.<"BMW just does not have a powerful enough engine for RR" - really? Who do you think makes the current RR engines? Who do you think owns RR cars?> That is exactly what I meant. RR is not fast because BMW does not have powerful enough engine that would make RR fast. Benz has and Maybachs are very fast.

5. <Try any of the others in a tight quarter mile slalom against a 530 or a 550, then tell me who's faster.> I want to be better than them in a straight line too.

6. You can say whatever you want but it looks like BMW agrees with me by not bringing its underpowered models to US in 2008.

What about up an incline?

BTW if you want to be faster in a straight line, why go for steptronic?

By you selectively choosing to ignore parts of them and of mine. Never mind. Each to his own.

Because it is faster than manual.

I'd still like to know why on a day to day basis you need 300-400 HP in the US whereas I seem to manage OK with 163 HP here in the UK...

I have the least powerful E60 and it is not underpowered.

You're completely missing the point of a turbo.

A well-engineered turbo 6 can give you the best of all worlds - great HP & TQ, but in a smaller displacement motor, such that your mileage is much better than a equivalent V-8 at cruising speeds. With large displacement eights, you have to feed those liters all the time, and you end up with a very thirsty car.

Audi is not a fair comparison because their turbos are fours. Fours suck. Turbo sixes are a different story; turboed straight sixes are even sweeter, and turboed, forged, straight sixes are the sweetest (think Supra).
Did you drive it? I test drove 335i twice and didn't like it. Quite a few people here reported same experience in daily driving (NOT on a racetrack). Low power below 1500, then power boost and jerk. Basically, TT unpleasant in stop-n-go traffic since engine speed crosses turbo pickup line all the time. It is even worse with automatic since it sometimes downshifts at the wrong moment.

Tell me then, why TT is not offered in Europe and instead NA 272hp 530 is offered in MY 2008? I believe the answer is simple: in US BMW decided it must have 300hp to compete with Lexus GS350 and Infiniti M35. Not offering TT on E60 in Europe shows, IMO, that BMW does not think TT is a good thing really.

2004 A6 was 2.7 V6 turbo. It had great torque at low rpm and yet it is gone. Why is that?
