Ever since the appearance of E60 5-series, there have been totally nine different versions of it. If all nine versions exist in the market currently, and you could choose again or buy your next one, which one would you get? Of course, you have to take their respective prices into consideration.

The nine versions are:
M5(5.0L V10, 500hp)
550i(4.8L V8, 360hp)
545i(4.4L V8, 325hp)
535i(3.0L I6 + TT, est 300hp)
530i(3.0L I6, 255hp) *2005-2007
530i(3.0L I6, 225hp) *2004
528i(3.0L I6, 230hp)
525i(3.0L I6, 215hp) *2005-2007
525i(3.0L I6, 184hp) *2004

I would choose 535i.

I assume you're talking about the US market so you're not looking for an opinion from RoW.

Is the LCI 530i (272 BHP) not available in the US?

In the UK there is also:
520i (2.0 I4)
520D (2.0 I4)
525D (2.5 I6 turbo)
530D (3.0 I6 turbo)
535D (3.0 I6 twin turbo)

Don't have the HP figures to hand.

And I'd have the M5!

520i (LCI) 120kW;163PS
520D (Pre/post LCI)) 120/130kW;163/177PS
523i (Pre-LCI) 130kW;177PS
525D (Pre/post LCI)) 130/145Kw; 177/197PS
530D 170kW;231PS
535D (Pre/post LCI)) 200/210kW;272/286PS

PS is Metric HP which is what BMW quote. It gives a bigger (about 1%) number than Imperial HP.

** I've deleted the data I originally presented in this post as it was erroneous (as correctly pointed out by ABC in his original response to this post)**

The 535d would be my choice, btw...

There have traditionally been differences between the US and EU specs of the various engines. Here's a very rough overview that I have cobbled together...
I disagree

The SPECS are entirely the SAME.

It's the UNITS.

The European numbers are in PS (and someone has called the numbers HP) and the US engines are in HP.

http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/converter.htm

There is roughly 1% difference between metric HP(PS) and Imperial HP.
