I have had my e60 545 sitting in my garage for over a month now and let me tell you im missing the ultimate driving machine alot.. everyday i sit inside it and clean the interior. i wax it once a week and clean the rims even when there is not a spot of dirt on them. also i start up the car twice a week and let it run to operating temperature.i have to wait until the end of april in order to drive it again.....big bummer, but the good news is not a spec of salt on it and never seen snow... i got a car cover on it even sitting in the garage... so until april my modded e60 is in sleep mode and is getting its rest for some wonderful summer experiences ahead this year...for the winter im driving a 2003 chevy cavalier.

How many e60 owners on this forum have their e60's put down for the winter and what kind of car are you beating up for the time being?

I drive 545i all seasons even with -40C .... zero issues at all! Driving the ultimate machine on snow is huge fun... lol

Why u keep it garaged? e60 is good for winters.

worrying about salt? just keep washing it 1 or 2 per week but here in Alberta they don't use salt and use sand instead.

I've been doing the same as you minus the car cover. I have an SUV for winter.

sillyness. These cars were engineered to operate quite well in the harshest of winters. Putting the car to sleep for the winter will not slow the depreciation. A car never rained or snowed on will be worth the same as a car left outside all winter. Your depriving yourself unneccessarily.

Our winters aren't anywhere like yours, so no...the E60 is driven all year round. The red one though...that one doesn't go out in the rain. In fact, that one only gets about 4K miles per year put on it. Not out of design, but it's not terribly practical most of the time.

Judging by the picture, I do the same as poleposition. I drive my e60 whenever I can, but take the X5 out when it snows. Mine is only the 3.0, so needless to say I still opt for the V8 whenever the weather permits.

Sadly, at rthe rate these things depreciate, a UK car would have lost ?2-3,000 in value while lying idle ;-(
At least when driving it we get the gain as well as the pain

well the reason why i put mine to sleep for the winter is because here in toronto they use salt the size of golf balls and let me tell you, no matter how much you've rust proofed or washed your car weekly that will not prevent anything...plus we get weather colder than ever like -50 with the wind chill. plus the big v8 has to much torque in the snow and i slide everywhere. with these harsh weather conditions it is not good for the vehicle, when the temperature jumps 10 degrees everyday back and forth. plus, there are too may obstacles in winter driving that i have to avoid with my e60 and id rather drive around a shitbox for the winter instead of beating up mine. plus i keep my kilometers low and enjoy some gas savings for a while. switching from a big v8 to a small 4 banger. thats just me. cant wait for the spring...
