So my 2004 525i will crank beautifully but will not fire up when its cold out. When its warm out the car will start first try!
No rough idling, no codes coming up, when it starts up works fine no immediate shut down.
Ive already replaced the battery, spark plugs, coils, breather valve, PCV valve, even the fuel pump/filter!
Could it be the thermostat/sensor because of the temperature outside having to do with?
Ive tried it all but have no clue what do to or where to start! Any suggestions before i paint it blue and drive it into the ocean?![Stuart](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/stuart.gif)
Thanks in advance!
Jon

I was just going to suggest this. Yes it is most likely the intake camshaft position sensor being on its way out. Classical symptom. If you have an M54 engine it will take you 15 minutes to replace

i just went through the same exact thing with my 05 545 the last three weeks . Replaced battery (wasted money) IVM/ISB module (waste) and my problem turned out to be one of the two relays in the glove compartment just swapped them around and she fired right up and has continued to for the last week. Still not sure what the two relays are for. Hope this helps you i was ready to crash my baby up too.

Your going to want to start checking sensors that are used as inputs to the pcm taht register temperature, such as an intake air temp sensor or a coolant temp sensor being that your problem is temperature related.
