I think you experience this feeling because the car is "high waisted". Meaning, the door panels are tall and you feel like you are sitting very low. I'm used to it now, but I know the feeling. I have 13,000 miles on my car already.

While parking or otherwise going slow it's still relatively easy, but when driving between concrete barriers with higher speed... Like when there is one lane closed and rest are narrowed to 2,1 - 2,2 meters I have bad feeling that I hit something. My trick has been that I imagine where my left foot is on the road, like using it to measure distance to barrier.

I know that space between those barriers are exacly same what ever the speed is but still. Maybe I afraid cost of any scratch.

(Maybe crazy)

Maybe BMW should design a new feature similar to PDC except the sensors would be on the sides of the bumpers so the driver would know how close he/she is to various objects.

Maybe adding "curb finders" would help.

the new Infiniti M34/45 has a camera (similar to backup camera) under the outside mirrors to do just that

skaffa,

I totally agree with you about the feeling of the size.Only one week after we recieved our car in Munich, we were in Paris and as I was leaving a hotel car park, the tight round exit ramp had a very tall curb. I thought that my front tire had scraped the curb, but later that day I discovered it was my front lower bumper edge that was significantly scraped

It has taken me some time to become accustomed to the placement of the extremities of the car. I think it was also because I had a VW Passat which was more compact in certain areas.

I'm now VERY carfeful about where my car's edges are located. Also, it is easier with the car being in US with our larger parking and driving spaces....
