Hi all e60 friends, can anyone recommend an extended warranty? I have owned a 2008 E60 528xi for 3 years with 249000 miles now. This week I got a failed transfer case and it cost me 3.9k.. Really cannot afford anything major in the future e.g., zf transmission...

Just do lots and lots of due diligence... The consensus is that the majority of the extended warranties aren't worth it. To me, the only thing that makes my E61 a viable proposition is that I can twist my own wrenches, am retired, and have nearly infinite patience. The only thing I need to work on is leaning to curse in German.

Agreed. When I bought my E61 in 2018 the GM dealership offered me an aftermarket warranty but it was around $6,500 for two years and there was a long list of not covered items, including anything electrical. I did need my turbo wastegates replaced and they probably would have covered that but wouldn’t have done motor mounts, gaskets, etc. while they were in there, the way I did.

I wasted my money on an extended warranty. My indy mechanic said, because they only cover hard to fail parts. I get that. Then when it's time for hard to fail parts to fail, no one will offer a warranty for high mileage.
