E60 wannabe from Great White North

Already have '98 Z3 and looking to purchase used e60 '06 or '07. Defintely want 3.0 v6 but unsure on whether to get X or not. What is reliability out there in real world for the AWD. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, I don't recall any issues specific to the X-Drive system so can't help you there. Many members here have Xi models and can help you out with reliability of the system.

How white is your great north? Snow belt with lots of wet heavy snow, or the deep freeze of the north? AWD is not essential, good winter tires are!

Well, my experience is limited to the 6 months I've had my car, but so far no issues with the AWD whatsoever. I have a 2006 with 64K on it. AFAIK there were no issues with the previous owner either, based on mainenance history. Actually, I did have one error pop up on the I-drive briefly once when it was very wet out. Went out very shortly as I was driving and hasn't recurred A wet sensor issue of some kind I think. I know of one other person who has experienced this.

Not that far North, southwestern Ontario. Wet snow with the occasional snowstorm. My BMW mechanic says get a regular 5 seris with snow tires (as many of you have mentioned) as eventually will have problem and will be expensive to fix. Also says AWD uses more gas. Tough call as i have my eye on a nice 530 xi. Would love to hear from some more Xi owners

Cold Weather Package
I live in Winnipeg, long winters! I drove mine last year with all seasons and had no problems at all. Once my tires go bald I will fork out for winter tires but am very impressed with how the XI drives in the winter. Basically the only good thing about winter is getting to boot around in my E60 XI
