I really think these software updates are all about the dealer, their proficiency, training and experience and how much they invest back in the service department.
E.G. My dealer has a 35 bay service facility. They have the organization to train the technicians, the cash and presence of mind to keep some TCUs and CCCs in stock. They also have 3 machines for software programming and updating.

If your dealer has only one, then you car might be hanging around while someone else is on the machine all day because the technician does not know the difference between a reprogram and a reinstall. This is why sometimes we loose our settings and sometimes we don't.

They get slammed when there is an emmisions recall. Imagine 10 cars a day, one machine. 4 hours per car. Ks, I chalk up your misfortune to a disorganized dealer.

Dropped it off at 10 AM, called me at 2 PM and said it was done.? Upgraded to 13.3.? He said no problems.? He did tell me beforehand that if something went wrong, they would have to keep it overnight.? Guess I lucked out.? He also mentioned that the problems with upgrading had to do with upgrading from a certain version to another version and that it sometimes required to an interim version... don't think he actually knew the details but probably heard it from a tech or something.?

Fixed emissions recall and programmed bluetooth.? Took me 5 minutes to pair my Motorola Razr.? Works great.

Great service and had a 330ix as a loaner.

Good luck and cheers!

Good point Hormazd! That very well could be the case. But the SA specifically told me they were having trouble getting the update to take. Now either they she was using that as an exuse for being slammed by the recall or she was being honest and they were having troubles getting the new software to work. After reading about JDN's troubles, I am only concerned that I might be heading down the same path he did. I do have a 325i loaner. Nice but not my 545!
