I have 2 other late model BMW's and on both cars the locks were popped out pretty easily and they cars were broken into in order to get the manual. Has anyone experienced this problem with the new e60? Do the locks just pop right out as on the other BMW's?

Not stolen...but that guy in Florida had his car picked up from the dealer service by someone else other than himself!

i think the E60 is pretty much unstealable without the key. In the UK at least thieves don't seem to even bother breaking into the latest "luxury" or "sports" cars they will just break into your house and steal the keys while you sleep, or car-jack you

some people advise taking the keys upstairs to bed with you but a number of reported incidents have involved couple being woken up by armed thieves standing at the foot of the bed demanding the keys to their car(s).

personally i'd rather leave my keys downstairs, if someone wants to steal the car then they can take it, rather that than put family at risk. Anyway i'd then get another one so could spend more time choosing a new spec

But how do you know they would stop at car theft once inside your home? They would enter my home at their own risk.

Anyone who enters ANYONES house in Texas without being invited should be committed.
I live in NYC and I would suggest also to not enter my home. It would be better to ring the door and politely ask for tke keys to steal my car.

I am wondering though can these door locks be popper out easily. On the M3 it takes under 10 seconds to break into the car because the door lock is so vulnerable.

My 530 was stolen in march from the valet at a restaurant. Someone snatched they key from their lockbox and off they went (or may be the valet did it). NYC police wasn't interested enough to investigate them.

BTW, the thieves that broke into evperry's cars most likely weren't looking for the manuals, it's just so happens that most many people keep their valet key in the glove box.... (or so the insurance claims rep tells me) The manual is just a trophy.

Thanks,
Dave

JDN, apparently anyone entering Texas does it at their own risk
