Same thing, on a bridge after a brief snow squal...an OMG moment. Except, I postponed having the winter wheels slipped on so that I could have the lousy Dunlop thumpflats FINALLY replaced all at one time. The warranty replacements (permitted to be something other than Dunlops by BMWNA) arrived last week, but they couldn't schedule me until Thursday.

I was white-knuckled all the way to work this morning.

Can't wait for those old 17" Semperits to get remounted.

Ray

White knuckles sums it up nicely.

Here we go for winter. But, winter tires aren't fun.

I guess I'll be the third Houstonian to rub it in for you guys in Chicago. But those snow stories reminds me of my time traveling in Canada and the New England areas.

As an ex-Chicagoan (Chicagolander?), I can relate. However, now I have to deal with driving through smoke and flames during fire season. It's always something....

Sunday night local roads were loaded with Black Ice in No Jersey, Mahwah; My son and I watched a flatbed drag an overturned car out of the woods which was bent across the decklid/quarters. Then decided to turn around and take the long way home despite the fact I was in my wife's Audi. My car was safely parked in the driveway.

As much as I dislike having snows on I learned my lesson in my E39. The car was a handful with only a light dusting of snow n the ground (18" high speed summers).

I now put on my snow tires around October 15th even if there is no snow in the forecast. This year we didn't regally get snow on the ground until a week ago.

This is Alberta. We get 6 months of winter and 6 months of poor sledding.

Yikes ... yes the 550i in summer shoes is a mess in the cold, slippery stuff.

I had the same experience two years ago when I first got the E60 and the winter tires I ordered from TireRack had been backordered (which they never told me about) ... so I was too late with the winter rubber and got caught in an early December snow ... sideways, tires against the curb ... help!

This year I put my snows on 3 weeks ago, and driving around in the snow last night and today has been fine, thanks to the Dunlops.

Happy trails.
