I'm thinking about getting the SMG on my E60 545i.

I currently have the SMG II on my E46 M3 and was wondering if anyone here can do a comparison between the two SMG setups -- i.e., SMG II (M3) v. SMG (545i).

I know the 545i SMG does not have the drivelogic settings that is on the M3 system, but how are the shifts? Are they slow and jerky? Or quicker, and snappy like the S5 (or even S6) setting on the SMG II for the M3?

Thanks for any input.

I've only driven the E46 M3 SMG one time for about a half-hour or so but clearly the E60 SMG isn't like the S5 or S6 settings on the M3.

That said, you learn to adapt to the E60 with time. I still love the SMG and would do it again in a heartbeat...

I have a 545 SMG for a little over a year now and have driven an M3 SMG. I love it. I think there are three settings on the E60's. 1. Normal Mode, 2. Sport Mode, 3. Sport mode with DSC disabled.
My own preference would be to move each mode a little quicker, the current sport mode should be the default mode etc. Remember this is a real five passenger car and not designed to be an M3.
You don't have the flexibility of the M3, but we do have accelleration assist (launch control, digital burnouts).
I think the E60 SMG is for us that needs a car the size of the E60 but really would get an M3 if size was not an issue or an M5 fot those of us that can afford it.
