I have tried the comfort-seats and the standard seats and here are my impressions:

Standard seat:
Very comfortable and clearly wider and longer than the seats in E46 and E34 which I have had previously. In the E46 and E34 I need the adjustable thigh support of the sport-seats to sit comfortable, but not in this seat (I am 6'2"). The seats however lacked some lumbar support.

Comfort seat:
In addition to the settings by the standard seat, these seats have:
- adjustable thigh support
- adjustable width of the backrest
- split upper/lower portion of the backrest
- lumbar support
- headrests with foldable side support
- active whiplash protection system
- fully electrical adjusted with 3 memories

The cushoning in the seats that I tried was harder than the standard seat (these had seat ventilation and were "active"). The headrests were very comfortable and it was nice to be able to adjust the seatback depending on the type of driving that you were doing. They could be adjusted to have nearly the same support as the sport-seats and also be set to a less supportive, more relaxed seat-width. The lumbar support was nice. The "split-back" setting did not do anything for me and neither did the adjustable thigh support.

In summary: As I see it, the major reasons to get the comfort seats are if you want the active whiplash protection or if the standard seats do not fit your body constitution. For me, the standard seats with extra lumbar support are at least as comfortable as the comfort seat, and I do not want to pay that much extra to get the whiplash protection and the adjustable side support. If money was not an issue, I'd get the comfort seats, otherwise I'd rather spend them on other add-ons.

There are loads of pictures around with the thigh support extended on the comfort seats, and the owners manual also shows the control for its electric adjustment.

helpfull thread, a few (pedantic) questions pertaining to US cars

1. do the comfort seats for US include thigh support (pg 37 in manual) ?
2. Is the thigh support in the comfort seats the same as in the sport seats ?

3. Is the Active Seat Ventilation offered in the US ?
4. Is Active Seat offered in the US ?
Page 42 seems to mention them (but i haven't noticed US brochures mention 3,4)

Thanks

I was starting to get confused again with the seat choices and a re-read this thread. There are (at least?) 3 different seats, though, right?

Comfort Seats - everything (20-way?)
Sport seat (w/ ZSP/ZSS) - 12 way w/ thigh support
Regular Seats - std on all.

(I'd love to know what the extra 8 "ways" are in the comfort seats, presumably 4 of them are the lumbar, but that still leaves another 4)

Also, the non-545 can be ordered w/ ZPP which gives you the lumbar for either standard (w/o ZSP), or sports (w/ ZSP) seat? And the 545 you pay extra for code488 which gets you the same thing.

How many "way" adjustable is the regular seat?

If anyone has a good idea about all the seat things, I'd love to hear.

Does that make sense, or am I confusing things. It sure isn't clear from the literature/websites.

thanks
