E60 Remote Boot Release stopped working
#1
Hi guys,
I have a late 2005 523i M Sport in carbon black. Up until yesterday I could open the boot remotely by holding the button on my key for > 1 second. But suddenly it stopped working and I have to open it using the key. If I press the key button when the boot is up. I can hear the little lock operate (click click) so I know it can 'hear' me... but when the boot is shut it refuses to open.
Have I somehow disabled the remote boot release by pressing some weird combination of buttons on the key? has anyone else had this problem ?
Thanks in advance.
Todd.

Just had BMW North Oxford have a look at the car and they say its the wiring loom (?450 to fix). While it is on order they have disconnected the electrics to the boot lock so I can no lock/unlock it using the key.
I assume the electrics just control a solenoid that opens the lock and with my faulty wiring loom the solenoiod is always holding the lock open? either way it works for the time being until the new loom arrives (and I decide to go ahead with the replacement). The only bummer is the car warns that the boot is open each time I pull away.
Im tempted to have the loom out/open to see if I can find the broken wires since I read a lot of E61 owners reporting similar problems - is it a common E60 problem as well ?
Any help appreciated

Just to close this thread and hopefully help others with similar problems :-
I had Mark Purcell in Oxford (http://www.yell.com/b/BMW+Specialist...722/index.html) have a look at the car and he fixed it for ?50. They found 3 wires sheard where the wiring loom enters the boot hinge. He inserted 3 bits of wire and soldered it all up... problem solved and ?400 cheaper than BMW.
Personally I find it shameful that BMW North Oxford quoted ?450 to replace and ?400 to repair. Guess I know where to take my car in future for repairs...

Hi,
No pictures Im afraid, but the garage said it was right in front of their faces when they removed the trim (inside right hand side of the boot, roughly at the bottom of the tubular struct that is the boot hinge).
It sounds like a common problem on E61's and the garage said they had done it on the old 5 series (E39?) and 3 series.
Anyway, its all fixed now and at least we know what to do in the future.
My next problem is to work out why my remote key range has decreased from, say, 10metres down to me having to stand right next to the car. The keys/car is used everyday so I doubt its a flat key battery... any ideas?

Can anyone confirm that this is an indication the battery is going to fail.
