I was having similar issues in my 550. Disconnect the IBS, then disconnect the battery from the negative terminal. Leave it off for 10-15 minutes, the reconnect and fire it up. should be just fine.

Hi all
Having some problems with my 2004 530d.
For the last 6weeks now, I have been getting errors of all sorts. I first got faults for transmission failure and runflat indicator. Turning car off and restarting cleared these up. then I started getting "check Battery Terminals". I have also seens Charging Fault, ABS inactive, etc
Mostly get them after the car has been stood for a few hours. I have replaced the battery thinking this was the problem, but still have the issues. I have check battery voltage and I get 12.4v in the morning after leaving it for 11hours, 14.38v when started and battery charging.
Ive had the battery and alternator checked at a local place that I use and they were deemed to be working fine.
This is really doing my head in now, and want to sort this out onceand for all
I hope someone will be able to help
Thanks

I had similar issues, and it turned out to be voltage regulator part of the alternator. After that was replaced -> no errors, and everything was fine.

Just went thru something similar. Car issued every failure mode, transmission went into 4th gear, and radio/speedo/air conditioning would cycle on and off. Replaced the alternator and all is well. Confirmed fault in alternator by monitoring voltage with a plug in voltmeter in cigarette lighter. Read fine at first - 14.2 +/- .1 volt , then BAM! 13 - 18 v, and warnings began. Indy repair shop was familiar with the failure and said that I may well have contributed to this failure by NOT having the battery programmed when changed. New alternator fixed everything.

Hi Blue rocket, thanks for that post!
I tested with a multimeter around 1 week ago, voltages looked good on the battery and normal voltages with the car running, but I only tested for around 20 seconds.
I disconnected my IBS lead around 1 week ago and since had two long trips (1-2 hrs driving) without any faults and initially thought it was cured, but another trip out this morning and all the errors started again; transmission fault, steering fault, tyre pressure monitor fault, check battery terminals, flickering idrive etc.
My battery voltage is healthy and also has an indicator for charger (green/amber/red) and its still green.
Based on the above, is my alternator/voltage regulator is throwing down 18V+, this is likely to cause the above issues regardless whether or not the battery is healthy?
If I replace the alternator, would the voltage regulator part come with it?
Many thanks in advance, so frustrating!

Voltage regulator is part of an alternator. You have to know how to rebuild the alternator to want to buy just the regulator. Without the regulator you do not have an alternator

Hi All,
Ive plugged in a digital voltmeter to my cigarette socket the last couple of days to observe the voltage.
Driving steadily without switching any additional electrical equipment on, the voltage fluctuates between 13.5V and 14.6V, this is when the car is behaving itself.
On the way to work this morning, I had the sudden flash of errors and noticed the voltage was down to 13.0V
Does this still sound like the voltage regulator part of the alternator?
