Welcome!
Runflats ...It has been discussed here over 1000 times.
It would be smoother with an incorrect - lower - pressure like 25psi all around. Do the test and you will find out that the reason is ...the Runflats.

For some reason my tires were inflated to 56 psi on delivery. Check them first.

Switch those runflats quickly.
Go to Tirerack.com, and take a look at the customer ratings and comments for different tires.
The tire alone can cause people feel like they have a different car.
Also cement roads can make the problem a lot worse.
The BMW will not give you the smoothest ride (compared to a Mercedes E-class), but it is also not the worst.
We look forward to hearing a bit once you have changed the tires.

Will provide feedback when they are changed.
I am also considering fitting tyres with a higher aspect ratio, hopefully on the OEM rims.

There's no doubt that the ride on the E60 with run flats is not the most compliant, although its noticeably better with the latest model / fourth gen run flats.
Changing over to ordinary tyres makes a huge difference.
However, the ride with runflats shouldn't be as bad as you describe; its worth asking the dealer to check that the trasnport wdges have not been left in by mistake ; these are plastic blocks which are inserted into the springs to stop the car bouncing around during transport; my last E60 had a bonejarring ride when I picked it up - only to find the blocks were still in the rear suspension.
Others on the forum have had the same experience.

thanks, will check the springs

As a 06 525 owner ive been through this one this year
Despite new bridgestone RFTs it still felt bad, also the noise was like having knackered wheel bearings, however check the "rotation arrow" on the tyre points to forward motion this can also cause issues.
I've fitted some genuine 125 19" BMW rims with PS-2 front and Bridgestone RE50 non runflats on the back.
had to get the spare saver jack etc.
Its now a lot quieter - you hear a little road noise and wind rush now, despite the 19" wheels and skinny tyres.
Due to the wider tyres it feels less likely to loose the rear, especially in the wet
Maybe negotiate with the Dealer a trade in of wheels. On a BMW AUC car you can hand it back within 14 day I think maybe go down that route ?

I think he got sick, tossed his cookies in such a projectile fashion as to hit the windshield. Blinded by his own goo he ran off a cliff.
Anyway..as to my 2 pennies on the subject of RFTs. I really do not mind mine at all. I like them infact. I had non RFTs last Winter and will put them on again, but I find it makes the ride too much like a Lexus or Benz. And for comparison I also drive my Jeep Wrangler and Porsche. It is perfect for my tastes.

I would settle for benz or lexus ride quality.
The ride on good roads is o.k. the problem is where I live is mainly country roads.
I also drive a Land Rover 90 and the compliance is better on the Land Rover.

Anyone has any comments on the rear seats of the e60? I find that while is comfortable when traveling but extremely difficult to get in and get out of as the seat cushion is very much sunken and tilted? Compared to the E class and the GS, the e60 has the best rear headroom though.

Agree that MB ride quality is hard to beat, almost legendary! Lexus, do not have that much experience but would take them very seriously and I think they are getting there.

The rear seat in the E61 is not bad though. Lots of room, especially for the knees. The room for my feet could be better. I don't find it hard to get in and out of the rear seat.

My previous car was a SAAB 9-5 and the rear seat was actually more comfortable than my E61. The angle of the backrest was better. I travelled some very long distances in the rear seat during a holiday drive in europe and never got tired. That's pretty much the only thing that was better in the SAAB.
