Is it possible the premium pkg comes with a better stereo system. I didn't notice this. But I have the premium pkg and at 1/2 volume it is too loud and base is heard outside the car and inside my house with windows closed on both.

I'm right there with you on this issue. I just am constantly kicking myself for not going w/the Premium sound package. I do think I might know why this may be an issue. I have had 4 BMW's - 2 of which were convertibles ( I still have one that I just can't part with yet ). Obviously when the top is down we are inclined to turn up the volume. I have always had problems (only) with the sound systems on the convertibles. Especially on my roadster- I always crank it up. Problem is I can't even count how many times I have blown the speakers and sub-woofers on these cars. The power was there, but the speakers could not accomodate. When these cars are still under warranty it must cost BMW a fortune. (My service dept. eventually got very annoyed everytime they saw me pull up complaining of the same old thing year after year). I think with the E60 they got savvy, and put some kind of power limit on the head unit, so it won't blow out the speakers. In fact I have 2 blown speakers on my roadster right now that I have to tend to when I get the chance.
I don't know if there is a way to bypass this (if it truly exists-just my logical opinion)- but I won't try to mess with it, and will have to live with a just-adequate sound system. Like someone else pointed out- you would expect a lot more from a 10 speaker system. I only wish I could upgrade to the Logic 7 -after the fact.
