my e60-530i has the standard audio system, its adequate though nothing super special, but i am used to driving with light music or in silence, which the quality does not bother me much.
on the other hand i drove a loaner the other day with L7,the sound is much better (louder) than my system, but for the extra in price, i would remain with my original decision.
as matter for comparison, i was truly impressed with the old sound system of the 540i e39. far superior to the L7 of e60. that system i will pay $$ for.

I have a US spec E60 with standard audio. My system works fine. Volume goes down when NAV is on. I have never had my volume as high as it will go. I get blown out just listening of favorite songs on the CD. I am taking my car in 6 Oct for an update. Hope they don't screw it up.
