My car is just back from the dealers after having an incessant rattle fixed (finally). It took them 2 tries to get it sorted, and they finally succeeded after i took them printouts from this forum.

They fixed it by doing the following (according to them):
- Replacing seat mounting seals.
- Installing additional rubber bushes on seat mounting points.

I can't really confirm this as all the work was done under warrantly, so I have not been issued with an invoice showing the work done. All I can confirm is that that annoying rattle that I used to have is well and truly gone. It sounded like it was coming from the area of the left-rear seat, and always came when going over things like manhole covers or expansion joints on motorway bridges and, of course, all the cobbled roads that we have around here. All gone now.

I can also confirm that I do not have folding rear seats, so the e60 rattle is not specifically related to this type of seat only.

The threads that really helped me were:

I seem to remember some people complaining about the rear package shelf developing a rattle. Also, I think it happens in conjuction with the fold-down rear seats. Do you happen to have the fold-downs?
Bumping this up as general feedback

Got my rear shelf rattle and engine bay rattle at idle finally sorted thanks to E60.net and another dealer

Rear parcel shelf turned out to be the plastic vent between shelf and rear windshield - solution adjustment and felt lining

Engine bay rattle at idle was air-intake issue - solution adjustment and felt lining

New dealer could not replicate intermittent gentle but noticeable pulse from brake when backing up but raised engine idle speed by 30rpm. This issue might have been brakes or gearbox but hopeful of engine speed adjustment

Favorite button "remembering purpose but not able to carry out after car has been asleep" replicated but not yet solved even with new software download - this a minor irritation and I'll keep you all posted if there is ever a solution

Cheers

Jim
