Hi, I own a 520D (bought in Feb 2007). It has around 7.000 Km.
I started to hear some noises on the back (right side).
It seems to me the noise probably related with loosen plastics.
is there anybody that has experienced someting similar ?

Hi, I mean a low intensity noise that is located in the back seat area (right side).
It is not a permanent noise. It is a noise that only appears when driving in a smooth road and passing a small bump/obstacle.
Then the noise appears like plastic.

I seem to remember some people complaining about the rear package shelf developing a rattle. Also, I think it happens in conjuction with the fold-down rear seats. Do you happen to have the fold-downs?

Hi, I have tried my own troubleshooting by reclining both back seats, as well as removing the central arm rest that has included the sky bags.
The noise still continues.
My major problem it if noises continues and even increases after warranty has expired!

Or rear sunshades. I had to have the RR quarter panel sunshade replaced. I also stuck a felt strip on the rear powered sunshade to stop it rattling when in the down position.

My car is just back from the dealers after having an incessant rattle fixed (finally). It took them 2 tries to get it sorted, and they finally succeeded after i took them printouts from this forum.

They fixed it by doing the following (according to them):
- Replacing seat mounting seals.
- Installing additional rubber bushes on seat mounting points.

I can't really confirm this as all the work was done under warrantly, so I have not been issued with an invoice showing the work done. All I can confirm is that that annoying rattle that I used to have is well and truly gone. It sounded like it was coming from the area of the left-rear seat, and always came when going over things like manhole covers or expansion joints on motorway bridges and, of course, all the cobbled roads that we have around here. All gone now.

I can also confirm that I do not have folding rear seats, so the e60 rattle is not specifically related to this type of seat only.

The threads that really helped me were:
