Exclamation E60 M5 OEM wheels/tyres fit on a E60 530i?

Hey guys,

Checking in from down under. I'm from Australia and own a BMW E60 530i (non-M-Sport) with the factory style 122 alloys from the BMW 545i. I've been toying with the idea of buying a set of E60 Style 166 OEM M5 wheels, though my research tells me there are some issues with picking the right size and profile tyres for the wheels. I know for a fact though that you can't run a 255 up front on a non-M5 fender as the factory specifications tell me they are 10mm wider guards.

I really love the OE M5 wheels (style 166M) and have found a used set in showroom condition.

OEM M5 specs:

Front Wheels 19 x 8.5 inch with Continental Sport Contact 2 (255/40 ZR19)

Rear Wheels 19 x 9.5 inch with Continental Sport Contact 2 (285/35 ZR19)

I would hate to sacrifice the ride quality and have been thinking if it would be possible to run these specs below.

245/40/19 Front and 275/35/19 Rear. I've been reading and some say that you can run a 285/35/19 in the rear but I may or may not need to roll the guards. I'd prefer the easiest and most safest option without sacrificing ride quality with low profile.

If someone can help me out it will be greatly appreciated. Has anyone done this? If yes, be good if you can share some light.

Thanks mate. I need as much advice and insight into this decision as I would hate to buy them and realise it was a bad decision.

I'm concerned about the tyres rubbing in the wheel well or fenders if I run the 255 in the front and 285 in the rear. Will I have that same issues with the 245 in the front and 275 in the rear?

Really need to know from you enthusiasts - what is the best tyre size to fit that wheel without any of the issues stated above as I am not keen on rolling or flaring the fenders.

tire size on the 166 wheels for your 530.

245/35/19 - Front

275/30/19- Rear

...you can keep the 285 in the rear, it won't rub. It will just look a bit oversize or have that trunk look.

Might sound silly mate but I'm not running a 30 profile in the rear on my 530i as I will feel every bump in the road. Can I run the 35 profile in the rear and the 40 in the front? I'm really excited to get them on the car but I want to do it right.

Why did they put 245 and 275 on the 19'' style 172 M-Sport wheels and 255 and 285 on the 19'' style 166M wheels?

Why is there a 10mm difference both front and back?

I'm getting conflicting stories from everybody I talk to

I run OE M6 wheels/ tires on my 535. They are the same size as the wheels you want and actually have the same tires. I get the mildest of rubbing when there is a passenger in the car. It's on the inner fender liner and it happens so sparingly that I haven't even bothered to look at it. I would presume that the M5 wheels would be similar if not identical. In other words: don't worry about it.

I am running 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 with no problems. The front may rub the lining slighly but not much. I have an xi which does not have sports suspension so I don't know how it is on sports suspension equipped cars.

Because 166M's are for M5, which obviously has different suspension setup, offsets and wider fenders in the front. I'm running 225/40/19 front and 275/35/19 on 530i sport. No rubbing issues, but 225 will look pretty skinny if you got 8.5" wheels, better option will be 235/40/19 or 255/35/19 for the front depending how aggressive your offset is.

BTW, my ride is still pretty stiff (vs. non-run flat 18's) and also 1-2 MPG worst than 18's

Thought I would revisit this thread as I have just picked up a set of OEM E60 Style 166 BMW M5 wheels for my 5 Series. The specs on the tyres are 265/35/19 F & 305/30/19 R and the brand of the tyres are Bridgestone RE050A.

Does anyone here think the 265/35/19 tyre on the front will fit under the stock guards of a 530i W/O M-Sports? If no, what about if I rolled the guards all round? I am going to be selling off the rear tyres (305/30/19) as they definitely will not fit I am sure.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
