How long can these cars last? A friend of mine who is a big Audi fan says that BMW has very limited experience with turbos. He strongly discouraged me from keeping the car past 100,000 miles. Does his theory hold any credibility or is just plain BS?

BTW, this friend just bought himself a BMW M3 and not some Audi!!

too hard to tell as the n54 engine is still new....

IIRC, the turbos in our engine are made by Mitsubishi if that means anything ...and glad your friend came to his senses and dumped the audi

there is probably nobody with a 535 with that kind of mileage on it, but thus far the engine has had rave reviews. BMW has been using turbos on deisel engines for a bit if i am not mistaken. what year M3 did he buy? he just doesnt want you to buy a big ass sedan that is faster then his car...

The V8's are now getting TT. I'd say BMW is committed to them. I wouldn't worry about the long haul.

That talk coming from an "Audi fan" says it all to me. Audi's been the one spotty with quality over
the past 5-6 years. My car before the E60 was an Audi A4 and really is nothing compared to BMWs.

BMW's experience with engines is something that I wouldn't worry about -- BMW and MB.

If BMW is shifting over to turbo's, I would expect that they are fairly bulletproof then!
