I thought this topic would be discussed already somewhere, but after searching through several 5 series forums I cant find it anywhere. The LCI e60s with the new shifters come in two types, one with a glossy black center, a leather base and a larger, flushed Park button. While the other has a matte silver finish and a less symmetrical look.

I cant find any correlation between either one and a certain package. For example, I originally thought the shifter with leather was for the Sport Package, but I've seen cars online for sale and on youtube reviews with sports packages, but no leather base.

Does ANYONE know the difference between the two shifters? (pictures are of different cars but shifters are exactly the same as what I'm describing)

Both those shifters are the same although one has the M-Sport logo. They are the standard LCI auto box shifter. The different one you refer to which is chunkier for want of a better word is the shifter you get when sports automatic gearbox (SAT) is specced in the car.

The SAT shifter can be seen here.

youre right i didnt mean to post the same shifter twice. But the one that you attached a link of(the one I meant to post a picture of) is not in every one Ive seen. Heres a sport for sale without that shifter

That's a sports spec car. SAT transmission was an extra option that also added paddleshit to the steering wheel.
