I second previous comments! But I have to say that there is certain up sides in winter! One is of course to drive BMW!!! I just love it. It's just so logical in it's behaviour and power slides are so easy!

Here we have planty of sow this year!
I drive most of the time with DSC and DTC on (default) But when I'm in a mood, I switch of DSC (onljy DTC working) Fun begins here I found this option wery useful...
Both off ... only on parking (big) space...where no one is around.
Finnay I found E60 very stable car on the snow no suprises... the car behaviur is the best in this segment I can bet on it

im wondering guys how does the cars engine react to thoes temperatures...from what i know the colder the weather the better...but i feal that at less than 5c the car will find it too cold to perform properlly?

The engine I did not notice a slight difference in performance on the Autobahn. The only difference was to start the car in the morning the 1st time, way damn hard, 40 min if I wait to warm up the car, I could not started. If I pressed on the break-w Stept cars- then it was faster to start. Will not let it out again. My spoilers, the fogs and mirrors were full of ice. 
the best was that there was storm, accident so we stayed w 0km/h on the freeway for 3 hours in -5-10 C and the engine was not running just the elec. so key position two, full ac+seat heating and active, and L7 and no probs with the battery either. I LOVE THIS CAR it is so amazing!

Do you use sand when it gets this cold? How often do you use salt? Just asking to learn more. If the meteroligist says we are getting snow they start to salt/sand and plow if it is over .5 inches. I blame the plow trucks for the awful roads. I wish people would just slow down and let it melt during the day.
They use some sand in the city around crossings when the temp is cold enough, lower than -5 C.
But warmer than -5 C they really spray the roads with salt. Plow and salt.
Since we overhere always have a real winter for 3-4 months a year,
we are quite used to the conditions and the roads, what comes
to plowing and salting, are in deacent condition.
One other thing that is special for the Nordic countries is, that winter wheels with spikes are allowed.
This makes the roads go to really bad condition, the road lanes have like two valleys where the wheels
go.
This means that tramlinging is a really bad problem, and especially with wide tyres.
I have even considerd selling my 245/40 18" and buy a set of Styling 116 wheels with 225/50 16" tires.
Actually the comfort is way higher with my spikeless winter wheels than with the wide RF summer wheels.
