Thanks
this is a common procedure on E46 cars. google E46 headlight lens removal, I'm sure you'll find a few good threads with info and pictures. be careful; if you damage the lens or housing you're looking a big bucks for new parts. if i were you, id also remove all bulbs/ignitors/ballast, etc before putting a headlight in the oven.

good luck.

Do not do this. Any temperature that is capable of softening the plastic on these headlights will surely cause other damages, such as browning the plastic or causing it to bubble.

There's absolutely no point in throwing E60 headlights into the oven since it's permasealed. Unless you want to end up with messed up headlight that is.

I already said you don't want to use soldering iron. Get an oscillating tool, dremel, or a tool that's capable of cutting through plastic. You'll poison yourself using soldering iron. Not to mention removing way more plastic than necessary.

I think he's trying to remove and reuse the lens, like how E46 guys open up their headlights to mod the internals. a dremel tool is going to destroy anything it touches

OP, google "e46 headlight lens removal", and understand that you are attempting to do something that Hella and BMW never intended to happen which may result in you damaging your headlights beyond repair.

I can't help but wonder if you know who nomis (Simon) is and what Orions are...

Ok that would explain then why you don't know your info is wrong. Do a search for Orions in the mids forums or just look at Simon's sig to see what you can do to the headlights by opening them.

Hm, not sure what I read then. I definitely don't advocate it, but people are going to do what people are going to do.

What you read for the e46 is correct, but our headlights have to be cut open. Many people have tried to bake them open but it doesn't work.
